The history of Selmer Paris dates back to 1885, when Henri Selmer, a clarinetist who graduated from the Paris Conservatorie, began manufacturing his own reeds and mouthpieces. In 1898 he began manufacturing clarinets and by 1900 he had won awards and began to export his instruments to England. 1906 marked the first shop in the USA, and by 1922 they were manufacturing saxophones as well. The first trumpet model, called the “Armstrong”, was introduced in 1933. Even into modern day, Selmer Paris has kept true to traditional designs while introducing innovative new models that satisfy even the most critical professionals.

Reference:
The Reference series of saxophones are truly built in the spirit of the Mark VI and Balanced Action saxophones of decades past, but they have taken their place as integral entries in the saxophone market. Constructed in the same brass alloy as the Series III, they are quick responding with a full sound. They combine the quick response of the Series III with the resonant properties of the best Series II saxophones. The key ergonomics are also greatly improved over generations past.

Series III:
The Series III saxophones epitomize speed. Lightning-quick response and flawless ergonomics make these saxophones move; allowing you to perform at the speeds you need in these hyper-fast times. Instead of traditional brass, these saxophones are built on a platform with a slightly higher copper content, creating a rich warm tone that is automatic from the first breath into the instrument.

Series II:
The Series II saxophones have been the professional choice for a generation and continue to be the most popular professional saxophone in the world. The reasons are clear: they all possess a flexible but centered tone that is natural in almost any playing situation. Yellow brass body tubes and keys resonate across the entire timbre spectrum: full-ribbed construction enhances their durability. The Series’ superior intonation characteristics make these saxophones a natural choice for any professional or those who aspire to be.
