The story of the C.G. Conn double horn began with the vision and determination of one man: Colonel Charles Gerald Conn (1844-1931). Col. Conn was a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Civil War and a cornetist who founded a band instrument manufacturing company in the small town of Elkhart, Indiana. Working closely with musicians, Conn produced many professional instruments, including the French horn. In those early years, C.G. Conn horns became known as the “artist’s choice” as they were played and endorsed by the most prominent touring groups of the day. Conn instruments continue to be popular with professional orchestras today.

8D:
The model 8D, the horn of choice in a vast majority of film work, is the most listened to horn in the world. Its rich full tone can be controlled at all dynamic levels. The clarity of sound continues to make the 8D the clear choice of leading players and teachers. Its design allows players to slot notes more securely, making the 8D the best choice for students at the high school and college levels, as well. This horn has a .468” bore, all nickel silver construction, a large throat 12 1/4” hand hammered bell, adjustable finger levers, tapered rotors and bearings, semi-mechanical main valves, fully mechanical change valve, two tuning slide system, and clear lacquer finish. Options include a detachable screw bell, a rose or yellow brass bell, full mechanical linkage, silver plated finish, adjustable fingerhook, and a push button water key on the first branch.

V8D:
From the Pro Shop in Eastlake, Ohio, the new Vintage 8D introduces a new age of custom horns to C.G. Conn. The Vintage series provides new options of clarity, flexibility, sound and performance for professionals who demand the very best from their instruments. Along with an extreme high level of craftsmanship, Vintage horns include these features: A lightweight, annealed hand hammered bell; an annealed lead pipe; stress free bracing and assembly; an extra long pull on 2nd Bb slide, traditional string linkage on all rotors, hand lapped slides and tapered rotors, sized solder joints, and brass bead rings. Options include a hand flipper and detachable screw bell.

9D:
The design of the 9D is similar to the 8D but with a medium throat bell, giving the horn more control and resistance comparatively. It has a .468” bore, all nickel silver construction, a large throat 12 1/4” hand hammered bell, adjustable finger levers, tapered rotors and bearings, semi-mechanical main valves, fully mechanical change valve, two tuning slide system, and clear lacquer finish. Options include a detachable screw bell, a rose or yellow brass bell, full mechanical linkage, silver plated finish, adjustable fingerhook, and a push button water key on the first branch.

10D:
A Geyer-style horn (the change valve follows the main valve cluster), the 10D provides control and focus with the flexibility of sound necessary in chamber and symphonic settings. This horn has a .468" bore, yellow brass 12” small throat hand hammered bell and first branch with a lacquer finish, and tapered rotors and bearings. Options include a detachable screw bell, a rose brass bell, full mechanical linkage, silver plated finish, adjustable fingerhook, and a push button water key on the first branch.

11D:
For those preferring a Geyer-style horn (the change valve follows the main valve cluster), the 11D produces a rich but brilliant sound, slightly more open than the 10D. This horn has a .468" bore, yellow brass 12” medium throat hand hammered bell and first branch with a lacquer finish, and tapered rotors and bearings. Options include a detachable screw bell, a rose brass bell, full mechanical linkage, silver plated finish, adjustable fingerhook, and a push button water key on the first branch.

6D:
This artist double horn, widely used in school ensembles, is one of the best values in the double horn market. It has professional features on an instrument that is easy to control. It has a .468" bore, yellow brass 12" hand hammered bell with a lacquered finish, nickel outer slides, and tapered rotors and bearings.
