They are available in Sterling Silver92.5% pure Silver is also known as Sterling. This metal serves as the standard of fine flutemakers worldwide. It is most often referred to as bright and sparkling. , Aurumite®Aurumite® flutes are produced using a patented fusion process that creates tubing made from interlocking layers of gold and silver. Custom Aurumite® flutes are made with 14K gold on the inside and sterling silver on the outside and come in a thickness of .014”., 10K Yellow gold, 14K Rose gold, 14K White GoldDenser than Silver, when alloyed with other metals, such as copper, it is also harder. Gold flutes are prized for their warm tone. Different karat tells of the volume of pure gold to alloyed metals. Gold is normally alloyed with copper, but can be alloyed with Silver and other materials as well. The higher the pure Gold content is, the darker and warmer the sound. In addition to using traditional silver and gold, Powell has produced tubing made from interlocking layers of gold and silver using a patented fusion process. This unique material, named Aurumite®, combines the projection of silver with the warmth of gold. On Custom flutes, the interior is 14K Rose Gold and the exterior is Sterling Silver.

A completely pinless mechanismA traditionally made flute has pins holding the mechanism together. These pins can catch hands and clothes and wick moisture into the mechanism causing binding. Benefits of a pinless mechanism include a smoother, quieter movement and less friction, allowing for more stable adjustments and eliminating the binding that can occur with pinned mechanisms. is now an option on Handmade Custom flutes. Powell’s new pinless mechanism features redesigned thumb keys for a more ergonomic position, a larger, flat G# spatula to accommodate many different hand positions, larger key adjustment spaces reducing adjustment problems in between routine maintenance, and individual key springs that can be adjusted to each player’s preferences.

There are three headjoint cuts. The Philharmonic: capable of broad dynamic ranges, creating a deep rich tone with extraordinary carrying power and focus. The Soloist: designed in conjunction with Ransom Wilson, the Soloist is an open style that combines considerable ease of playability with the sound of the Philharmonic, and it has an especially strong bottom octave. The Venti: a very colorful and rich headjoint, designed in conjunction with Paul Edmund Davies. It is open, has a large dynamic range, and possesses a powerful and especially free high register.

14K Rose Gold

This flute is available with soldered or drawn 14K rose gold toneholes or soldered sterling silver toneholes. The gold tonehole flutes come with a 14K rose gold mechanism, the sterling toneholes come with a sterling silver mechanism.

14K White Gold

This flute is available with soldered sterling silver or 14K white gold toneholes. The gold tonehole flutes come with a 14K white gold mechanism, the sterling toneholes come with a sterling silver mechanism.

19.5K Rose Gold with 14K Rings, Barrel, and Boxes

This flute is available with soldered sterling silver, 10K white or 14K rose gold toneholes. These flutes come with a matching mechanism, or sterling silver is an option.

This flute is available with soldered sterling silver or 14K rose gold toneholes. The gold tonehole flutes come with a 14K rose gold mechanism, the silver toneholes come with a sterling silver mechanism.

Platinum

This flute is available with soldered sterling silver or 10K yellow gold toneholes. The gold tonehole flutes come with a 10K yellow gold mechanism, the silver toneholes come with a sterling silver mechanism.

The above styles are made in .014”, .016” or .018” sterling silver, 10K yellow, 14K rose or white, or 19.5K rose gold, platinum or grenadilla wood. A 14K or platinum riser/wall can be added, or a 14K riser/wall and lip plate to a sterling silver headjoint. The gold headjoints have matching risers/walls and lip plates. The Aurumite® 14K has a 14K riser/wall and sterling silver lip plate. The platinum has a 10K yellow gold riser/wall and lip plate. The grenadilla wood headjoint comes with your choice of a sterling silver or 14K rose gold tenon.

C# TrillThe C# Trill is an additional trill key that moves several left hand fingering combinations to the right hand and simplifies a number of trills.

Split EThe Split E is an additional mechanism that offers a more secure high E natural and improves its articulation. It does not alter the pitch of any notes. It is typically only offered on offset key flutes.

Lower G Insert (G Disc)Also known as a G Disc, the Lower G Insert is a much less expensive alternative to the Split E mechanism, and also provides a more secure high E natural. Some players notice a slight flattening of the A natural in the first and second octaves.

High C Facilitator (Gizmo Key) (Standard)To counteract the additional resistance of the low B footjoint, the High C Facilitator closes the low B tonehole to improve the response of the 4th octave C.
