The Brogger Mekanik The Brögger flute is a Boehm system flute that uses a major mechanical modification developed by the Danish flutemaker, Johan Brögger. While Boehm flutes have proven themselves remarkably reliable for 150 years, there have always been two problems associated with them that frequently require maintenance: misadjustment between certain keys in the "main line," e.g., between D and E to F#, or between A to Bb, and binding problems between the G key and the Bb key on inline flutes. The resulting flute is noticeably quieter with reduced friction and far less wear to its moving parts., with its use of non-rotating shafts and full-size back connectors for all main line keys, effectively eliminates the common adjustment and binding problems found in standard Boehm flutes.

The mechanism is noticeably quieter with reduced friction and far less wear to its moving parts. Spring tension can be adjusted on each individual key for a more even feel. Benefits of the mechanism include more resistance to drops and maintaining an adjustment longer.

The Brogger Acoustic is the preferred option for Brogger flutes. It is a unique way of cutting toneholes to produce a more consistent tone quality over the register break. Those who prefer this modification find it creates a more free-blowing flute. This modification is always used on gold (tube) and platinum flutes unless requested otherwise.

Sterling Silver 92.5% pure Silver is also known as Sterling. This metal serves as the standard of fine flutemakers worldwide. It is most often referred to as bright and sparkling. in three thicknesses 0.014” …most shimmer, delicacy and “spin” in the sound
0.016” …the most popular wall thickness with a solid, warm timbre
0.018” …most dark, round, and robust sound in the sterling silver family
10K Rose Gold Denser than Silver, when alloyed with other metals, such as copper, it is also harder. Gold flutes are prized for their warm tone. Different karat tells of the volume of pure gold to alloyed metals. Gold is normally alloyed with Copper, but can be alloyed with Silver and other materials as well. The higher the pure Gold content is, the darker and warmer the sound. Pure Gold is 24K, but this metal would not easily form tubes or key mechanisms. The more pure the alloy, the more expensive it is.

Platinum The most dense of the precious metals, this white metal is known for its penetrating, crisp, and commanding sound.

Each Brogger flute comes in a leather case with a padded black nylon case cover, cherry cleaning rod, and polishing cloth.

They all feature soldered toneholes The original way of making a flute, the “chimney” of the hole is soldered on by hand. These toneholes are heavier than drawn toneholes, and produce a slightly darker tone and have increased resistance. The soldering process puts less stress on the flute, but requires more production time and handwork. and Straubinger pads.

Brannen has two different headjoint cuts, the Modern Cooper and the Modified Cooper. The Modern cut is responsive and able to handle a wide range of tone colors, while the Modified is considered to be a more traditional feel, being slightly more resistant with a rich, full sound.

14K White Gold

Like the rose gold, this flute is availabe three ways; soldered sterling silver toneholes with sterling mechanism, soldered 14K white gold toneholes with sterling mechanism, or soldered 14K white gold toneholes with 14K rose gold mechanism. They are all made with the Brogger acoustic.

Platinum

The platinum flute is availble two ways; soldered sterling silver toneholes with sterling mechanism or soldered 14K rose gold toneholes with 14K rose gold mechanism. They are both made with the Brogger acoustic.

Keywork

D# RollerThe D# Roller facilitates movement between the D#, C#, and C keys on the footjoint.

C# TrillThe C# Trill is an additional trill key that moves several left hand fingering combinations to the right hand and simplifies a number of trills.

Split EThe Split E is an additional mechanism that offers a more secure high E natural and improves its articulation. It does not alter the pitch of any notes. It is typically only offered on offset key flutes.

Lower G Insert (G Disc)Also known as a G Disc, the Lower G Insert is a much less expensive alternative to the Split E mechanism, and also provides a more secure high E natural. Some players notice a slight flattening of the A natural in the first and second octaves.

High C Facilitator (Gizmo Key) (Standard)To counteract the additional resistance of the low B footjoint, the High C Facilitator closes the low B tonehole to improve the response of the 4th octave C.

Half Closing Thumb KeyWhen playing High G#, this mechanism automatically closes the thumb key half to three quarters of the way. This creates better venting to improve pitch and intonation on the High G#.

Key ExtensionsKey extensions are additions to the keywork that allows flutists to reconfigure keys semi-permanently so that they can play in more comfortable positions.

Customized KeyworkCustomized keywork is an almost endless variety of key alterations designed to meet an individual flutist's needs when key extensions are not the appropriate solution.

Engraved KeyworkEngraved Keywork is decorative enhancement for key cups or lip plates of headjoints. Engraving scrapes a design into the metal of the flute.
